Enjoy an unforgettable experience at the National Mining Museum at Rumelange. The traditional tour starts aboard a mine train which first takes you through old opencast mines and then enters the underground mine through the Langengrund tunnel.
A collection that shows more than a century of technological evolution
The collection of the National Mining Museum includes tools, machinery and archive documents in relation to iron ore mining in Luxembourg from the mid-19th century until the 1980s.
The largest part of the collection is on display in the mine's original tunnels.
Presented in their original location, the machinery and tools are a vivid reminder of mining as it was.
This exhibition gives the visitor a real understanding of the mineworkers .

GUIDED TOURS
The tour
Duration: 1.30
Once underground, the visitor continues the tour on foot with a guide, to discover the techniques of ore extraction and the subterranean work in an iron ore mine. The mine is exited by train through the Walert tunnel, back to the Museum’s reception building.
Access to the interior of the mine is always in groups, and departure times are subject to the number of visitors. There may be some waiting time between successive departures, but as far as possible this will not be longer than 30 minutes.
Advice
The average temperature in the mine is a constant 10°C throughout the year, so it is important to wear warm clothing. There is no risk moving about the tunnels, but it is recommended to wear shoes with flat heels.
Dogs are not admitted.
Individual visitors
There is no fixed timetable for guided tours. Individual visitors simply call at the reception in the Museum where staff will provide them with the necessary information on tour departures.
Group visitors
Booking is recommended for groups (minimum 16 persons).
The museum also offers seasonal special tours.
