Blech: Every miner had a small mark called "Blech" or "Stong" with his worker number. These were hung on the minecart, and an identical copy hung on the wall at the foremans office, or at the entrance of the mine. When the workers took to their shift, they took one of their marks with them and hung them on the minecart. This way, the foreman could track who loaded which minecart. Of course some devious miscreants tried to switch these tags around to hang theirs onto a heavier, and thus more profitable, cart. If they were found out, it spelled trouble. A missing "Stong" also indicated that the worker was still in the mine. This way, people would immediately know who was missing in case of a cave-in.
