The "helleg Barbara/Boarbel/Bäerbel" (St. Barbara) is the patron saint of the Mineworkers and other professions that get close to fire, explosions and danger (such as the military or firefighters...). Every December 4th, the festivities surrounding "Boarbelendag" are announced by cannon blast. In Tétange, a statue representing the patron saint is taken on a march to the church for a commemorative service, and later, flowers and wreaths are laid down at the grave of Jean Schortgen. The service commemorates all 1.475 victims of the perilous working conditions in the mines. Afterwards, festivities can commence. The patron saint can be identified by her main features: A chalice, a pidgeon, a book, a palm frond and a background with a tower with three finestres. The "Boarbelendag" in Tétange has been recognized as cultural heritage since 2022.
